The last few years have left the tech world scrambling to patch both hardware and software vulnerabilities in major core technologies. Will 2019 be PHP's turn? Security researches fear that most of the internet will be caught out as PHP 5.6 reaches end of life at the end of 2018. If a major flaw is discovered after that time, most of the internet's public-facing websites could become vulnerable due to inertia in upgrading to PHP 7. Let's hope it won't take such a devastating event to force migration to a superior version of PHP.
